School Life
School Life
Our children are taught and guided on the basis of YMCA’s six core values: Compassion, Servant Leadership, Honesty, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
We praise
a child’s progress, not just the final product, but for the effort when a child displays positive attitudes.
We provide
specific, immediate feedback about a child's behaviour and progress. We recognise improvements and do not
expect perfection.
We encourage
a child to persevere, to give his best and to not give up.
We reason
with a child who displays
anti-social traits or negative behaviour towards peers or teachers.
We believe
that a child learns best through motivation and interactions with interested and involved adults.
Health & Medical
At our Centres, we work diligently to prevent the spread of germs. We take all possible precautions against the spread of communicable illnesses. For the health and safety of our children, it is mandatory that sick children do not come to the Centre. Please notify us immediately if your child develops a communicable disease. We will promptly notify the other parents and the proper authorities.
In the event that your child falls ill during his/her time in the Centre, we will notify you as soon as possible.
Meals
Our meals are well prepared in hygienic conditions, meet nutritional guidelines and the requirements of the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH). With respect to different religious groups and beliefs, we do not serve pork or beef at any of our Centres. Food that is not prepared by the Centre is discouraged as some children may be observing dietary restrictions (health/allergy or religious).
Parents/guardians must inform staff of any food restrictions or allergies that your child may have.
Guidance & Discipline
At our Centres, children are taught and guided on the basis of YMCA’s core values: Compassion, Servant Leadership, Honesty, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
We do not practise corporal punishment on children (i.e. spanking, caning or meting out other forms of physical punishment).
We believe that a child learns best through verbal correction, explanation and modelling adults on character, good habits, language, spiritual and moral values.
Cleanliness & Hygiene
Our Centres are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition, meeting the requirements for hygiene and sanitary practices stipulated by ECDA and MOH. Our staff and children are taught to follow the recommended personal hygiene procedures stipulated by MOH.
Children are taught to wash their hands:
- when they arrive at the Centre
- before and after meals
- after using the toilet
- after playing at the playground
- after having their diapers changed
- after they come into contact with a child who may be sick
Safety & Security
Safety and security at our Centres are of utmost importance. No child will be released at any time, except to parents and persons authorised to pick them up. All our teachers are first aid trained and are familiar with emergency evacuation procedures.
